6 movies you definitely do not to watch before you travel

I love a good movie.  Especially those set in far flung regions of the world.  Those types of movies have me dreaming about where I might wander to next.  That’s the great thing about movies, they can invoke and inspire us to adventure to yonder lands far and wide.  But on the other hand there are movies that will make you want to stay in your bedroom, lock the door and never leave again.  Here are my top 6 movies not to watch before you travel.  If you ever want to go travelling, avoid these movies like the plague.  I know throughout my years on the road every single one of these movies have popped into my head!

1. Hostel

Going backpacking around Europe?  You won’t want to after watching this one.  Probably the most awful movie of all time.  Be warned, what you have seen you can’t un-see.

2. Taken

I’m sure everyone’s parents are re-playing this movie in their head every time you venture to a new country.  I can hear my mum now … “don’t talk to strangers”! And I have to admit if a young handsome guy starts talking to me at an airport I’m instantly suspicious!

... but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you... and I will kill you.

3. Wolf Creek

Planning on driving through the Australian outback?  Nope, not after this one.  The story line plus the fact that it is actually true is enough to put off even the most hardy traveller.  This has me petrified every time we drive through the outback.

4. The Hills have Eyes

Speaking of the Australian outback, this movie popped into my head when we arrived at Cooper Pedy in South Australia where the whole town lives underground.  Some places just resonate scenes from horror movies.

5. 127 Hours

For those wanting to venture off the beaten track, 127 hours will make you re-consider.  Let’s stick to the well-travelled path instead.

I've been moving towards it my entire life. The minute I was born, every breath that I've taken, every action has been leading me to this crack on the out surface.

6. Jaws

Oh yes … Jaws. That old classic with the great white sharks.  Thanks Jaws for constantly reminding me not to swim in the sea.

What other movies would you put on this list not to watch?
